Nothing we have done in the last year and a half has generated the enthusiastic response that the Parent-Teacher conference scheduler has. Go figure! ... It was actually easier than we thought it would be. After a few phone calls to other schools, I had the names of a couple of on-line programs, but one stood out with wonderful recommendations: Virtual Paragon. We had incredibly positive feedback. One parent wrote that "this was not just a good idea but a fabulous one." Another excitedly commented that "the system worked GREAT! Parents were not racing from room to room trying to get appointments." Teachers also loved the new system. ... Most importantly, teachers found that because parents had scheduled ahead of time, they arrived much happier and less frazzled. The less frantic pace seemed to allow more focus on the actual conversation and not on the scheduling.
Administratively, the system worked wonders. ... We had record numbers of parents attend, and yet the day was smoother then ever.
... Ultimately, the technology helped impact not only the scheduling, but the quality of the conferences themselves. Both teachers and parents reporting feeling more at ease and less harried, allowing the focus to be where it should be, on the students. The transition from a manual signup process to the online program raised the belief in the competency and effectiveness of technology. It took a bit of a leap of faith, but we encourage you to take the initative and use it next year. After all, technology is supposed to make our lives simpler and better, and in this case, it did.
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your support and help as we implemented the online appointment system. It worked beautifully and our parents and faculty were raving about the system throughout the course of the conferences. I have saved emails from parents praising if not exalting your system. It was a tremendous improvement over past years' conferences and we will definitely use it again next year. Please feel free to list [us] as a reference. In addition, our tech director has written an article on tech implementation that focuses on our change to an online system. He is hoping to submit for publication. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Our parent teacher conferences were on Friday and we received nothing but rave reviews about the new system. Our families thought it was so easy to use and our faculty appreciated knowing their schedules. Parents were much more relaxed about the day in general knowing they had control over their schedules and would not be waiting in long lines. TIME SAVED: literally, about 90 hours. Last year I put in so much overtime to do the same job as the Software did, that I ended up with a 2 week vacation. Last week I actually went to bed on time -- [but] last year I worked around the clock to schedule conferences. ...
